Hart Crossing

Lifestyle

Kamas Valley is an extraordinary place. It is only minutes away from the solitude of the Uintas and Wasatch National Forest, or the excitement of Park City and Salt Lake City.

With so much to do within less than an hour’s drive, Hart Crossing is within easy reach of athletics, arts, fine dining, shopping, festivals, or — much closer to home — hiking, horseback riding, paddling, fishing, hunting, and off-roading. And during the winter months, the area is home to some of the country’s finest skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling.

Boating &
Jet Skiing

Kamas Valley is within an hour of seven beautiful lakes suitable for power speed boats, luxury jet skis, WaveRunners, Sea-Doos, and tournament personal watercraft. The closest include the stunning Jordanelle Reservoir, which is fed by the Provo River, and the Rockport Reservoir, which is fed by the Weber River.
Hart Crossing Activities
There are more than 30 different campsites around the Heber-Kamas area, each known for a variety of highlights and amenities. Some popular spots include Aspen Grove for its wild strawberries; Rock Cliff Recreation Area for birders, photographers, and nature lovers; and Mirror Lake, with picnic and utility tables, tent pads, and campfire rings.

Camping

Canoeing,
Kayaking &
Paddling

In addition to reservoirs and larger lakes, canoeing and kayaking open up many more destinations for anyone interested in eye-catching geology, birdlife, rock art, and herds of desert bighorn sheep. For the more adventurous, Class II pool drop rapids can be found along the Colorado and San Juan Rivers and Class III rapids within the Green River’s Desolation Canyon.
Hart Crossing Activities
In the winter, few areas can beat the cross-country skiing opportunities available within the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest and High Uintas Wilderness. Some favorite trails in the area — ranging from easy to hard — include Seymour Canyon, Grandeur Peak East, Shingle Creek, Yellow Pine, Twin Lakes, and the Hollow.

Fishing

With more than 500 lakes in the Uintas, there is no shortage of creek, stream, river, and lake fishing in the area. Walleye, bass, catfish, northern pike, rainbow, cutthroat, and brown trout make up some of the most catchable fish in the area. The Provo River, Deer Creek Reservoir, and Mirror Lake are among the most popular spots.
There are 17 golf courses in and around Kamas Valley, with the closest private courses including two 18-hole, par 72 courses at Victory Ranch (7,265 yards) and the Talisker Club (7,801 yards). The former includes a natural 400-foot elevation change designed by Rees Jones, ASGCA, and is rated among the best in Utah. The second was designed by Mark O’Meara and overlooks the waters of the Jordanelle.

Biking

There are hundreds and hundreds of hiking and mountain biking trails in and around Kamas Valley for hikers and bikers of all experience levels. Mirror Lake, Nobletts Creek, Crystal Lake, Provo River Falls, the Armstrong, Jordanelle Rock Cliff, and Silver Lake are just a few area favorites.
There are dozens of ranches and outfitters near Kamas Valley and an abundance of horse- and dog-friendly trails. Rhodes Valley Outfitters, High Star Ranch, and Mountain Boulder Ranch are among them. Hunting

There are many places to hunt in Utah, depending on which licenses and permits are secured. Big game includes a variety of mountain goat, bighorn sheep, deer, elk, moose, and even bison for archery, muzzleloaders, and any legal weapon. Special seasonal permits are also obtainable for wild turkeys, geese, cranes, cougars, and black bears.

Kamas Valley is minutes away from Park City’s vibrant arts and culture — world-class theater, performing arts, film festivals, art galleries, clubs, pubs, and breweries. Closer to home, several pubs, taverns, and restaurants have become local hot spots for visitors and residents alike — all of them with great food and some with live music.

Nightlife

OHV/ATV
Off-Roading

Off-roading and Utah are almost synonymous. There are more than 2,800 miles of public lands designated for off-roading across the state. Only riders between the ages of 8 and 15 need an ATV/OHV license. A driver’s license will suffice for anyone 16 years of age and up. Most trails are rated easy to difficult. Utah is currently celebrating the 50th anniversary of its OHV photo scavenger hunt.
While Park City and Salt Lake City provide an abundance of brand name outlets, Kamas Valley also hosts a handful of art, country, jewelry, and western apparel stores. But what makes shopping anywhere around the valley incredibly unique is that everything is owned and managed by friends and neighbors.

Skiing &
Snowboarding

When anyone mentions skiing and Utah, their first thought is Park City resorts and Utah Olympic Park. And then for those that know, Deer Valley, Snowbird in Sandy, or even Robert Redford’s family skiing experience at Sundance might make the list. But in addition to world-famous skiing, Kamas Valley and Uinta Mountains also offer exceptional experiences in uncrowded recreational areas.
Hart Crossing Activities
Snowmobiles generally follow the same rules as OHVs in Utah. There are, however, dozens of trails — Mirror Lake, Mill Hollow, Uinta Basin, and others — that are specially designated for snowmobiles. Many of these trails and routes interconnect, making Utah one of the most expansive snowmobile areas in the country. There are several guided excursions as well.

Snowmobiling

Snowshoeing

Many of the hiking trails accessed in the spring, summer, and fall become snowshoeing trails in winter. The Kamas Ranger District produces a map every year with a wide variety of ideal terrain routes for beginners and expert skiers and snowshoers. Trails typically range from a list more than one mile to seven miles one way. One of the longest is Norway Flats, which eventually winds its way toward Little Elk Lake and the head of Boulder Creek.
